GCE L2 Unit 10 & 11 Review
Unit 10 was how to make the most of an interactive classroom. What are the ways that you can use Google tools to interact with your students and communities. Unit 10 seemed to focus on live synchronous ways to engage with students or community. Using YouTube live, Groups, and chat to see what your participants are thinking/feeling. They also mentioned how Blogger can be used for asynchronous work. The comments section in Blogger can be used to give feedback on what is being posted.
In my classroom, I might look into groups/chats more than using YouTube live. The only reason that I will stick to that is because we as a school are having issues with bandwidth and streaming lessons to begin with. With the most of the school using Google Meet at the same time, using other streaming platforms is nearly impossible. However, I wouldn't mind using blogger to get the students interacting with others from the grade level. Pre-Covid, the three 5th grade classrooms would be hanging out and interacting with all other classes. Now there are less interactions with peers. Blogger will allow us to pose a question or start a conversation where all 90 students are able to talk and interact with each other.
Unit 11 was all about group and collaborative work. While group work is great and really productive in the classroom, with covid group work might now be easier! I also enjoyed learning that keep is not just notes! I really have not used Google Keep since the first cohort. Knowing that students are now able to use keep to hold all of their notes and thoughts in one place! I also enjoyed seeing how to use Google Meet and Forms to make the ideas and thoughts for the projects more diverse.
In my class I will be promoting the use of Google Keep! We just did a research project and honestly, if my students would have known about this, then putting the works cited page might have been easier! Keep paired with the Google Cite generator, will make putting a works cited page together at the end of the paper so much easier! Group work is still VERY teacher lead in 5th grade, however I can see the benefits of the 20% project. I actually am excited to look into it further and see how I can use it, and the other Google aps, in my classroom!
Great idea of using Blogger to have GRADE LEVELS interact with each other. It would also be a fun way to do pen pal-ish type connections through NHA schools or multiple grade levels. I love that you are considering introducing Keep to students. Some will really thrive with this resource.
ReplyDeleteMy school is experiencing the same thing! Our bandwidth is struggling to keep up with all of the students and teachers using it at the same time. It is good to know that it would cause difficulty if trying to use google live simultaneously.
